Public Relations (PR) Campaign for Mainnet Decentralization

Free TON mainnet was officially launched by the initial validators on 7 May 2020. Since this time, the blockchain, community and ecosystem have made impressive improvements and growth. Very soon, over 300 additional validators will join the initial validators to provide a very high level of decentralization for the network. This will be a very important milestone for Free TON and also a very good opportunity for a public relations (PR) campaign. The press releases (PRs) should talk about the decentralization milestone, why Free TON is a special project, the recent progress and partnerships, components that the community has built (such as governance, DeFi, atomic swaps, TIP3 tokens, DevOps tools, etc.), and the future plans/roadmap and goals.

I think it would be a good idea to have a contest for this PR campaign. The important tasks are:

  • Recruiting publications/websites/professional writers to publish press releases
  • Writing press releases

Both of these can be accomplished by inviting publications/websites and professional writers to participate in this PR contest. (These invites should come from the PR Sub-Gov to prevent duplication of invites.)

This contest will serve two important functions:

  • Provide an incentive for publications/websites and professional writers to participate in the PR campaign
  • Give the professional writers personal experience working with the Free TON community and participating in the contest process.

1 place ------------ 10,000 TONs
2 place ------------ 9,800 TONs
3 place ------------ 9,600 TONs
5 place ------------ 9,400 TONs
…
50 place ------------200 TONs

There should be many places/awards because we want many publications/websites and professional writers to participate and have a positive experience with the Free TON community (by winning crystals).

Please note: this contest is only for publications/websites/writers that already have an established audience. This qualification should be required for the submissions to be accepted by the jury (we can require submissions to include evidence of their invitation or association with publications/websites or having an existing audience). I think this is important so jury members do not have to read too many submissions (that will not be seen by a large audience) and the voting can be completed quickly. Also, it will be difficult for non-professional writers to compete with professionals, so this will save the time of non-professionals.

I also think the jury should be limited to professionals associated with the PR Sub-Gov and the media companies in the community etc. This is important to keep jury feedback consistent with the “official” Free TON positioning, strategy, roadmap etc.

If accepted, we need to approve and complete this contest very quickly to support the decentralization milestone (in approximately 1 month). I will add more background information and details to this proposal soon. It is currently incomplete because I wanted to get this idea out to the community immediately.

I would really love to participate in this contest, but sadly I don’t know much about freeton yet, is there any with white-paper or something I can read to understand more about this project?

Hello. You can read https://docs.ton.dev/86757ecb2/p/04a4ba- https://medium.com/freeton/structure-of-the-free-ton-ecosystem-faf487cfbf73

Thanks alot, those links will be really helpful , thanks again.

This is an excellent idea. We had a similar contest before called De Promo https://gov.freeton.org/proposal?proposalAddress=0:9cd30e7c63e0cca4a6b23a5505e316f838a532ed5fa99964a46c0ebe6aace256

I had similar idea few days ago witch I would call: Best FreeTON intro article for export
Soon or late or may be right now third-party (bloggers, news portals etc.) will be ripe to write something about FreeTON, but they won’t know how. And we will help them with a prepared arsenal of articles. This articles can be written by community members with the understanding of technology. I wouldn’t force them to publish their materials on external resources obligatory. Not everybody who can write a perfect article has such connections.
We can pin the article collection resulting from such contest somewhere on the top and third-party can take it and repost on their own resources.
In addition I would initiate few additional contest for translation of 3 best articles into most popular languages.
Use of infographics is welcomed in such articles. E.g. explaining what is the difference in relation to another blockchains. Why we are harder, better, faster, stronger!

@ValueCreator
Any proposal must have proposed time period as well.

This is an excellent idea

Updated Contest Specification:

Dates:

Start: December 1, 2020; End: Jan 15, 2020 24:00 UTC

Background and Description:

Free TON mainnet was officially launched by the initial validators on 7 May 2020. Since this time, the blockchain, community and ecosystem have made impressive improvements and growth. Very soon, over 300 additional validators will join the initial validators to provide a very high level of decentralization for the network. This will be a very important milestone for Free TON and also a very good opportunity for a public relations (PR) campaign. The press releases, articles, or blog posts should talk about the decentralization milestone, why Free TON is a special project, the recent progress and partnerships, components that the community has built (such as governance, DeFi, atomic swaps, TIP3 tokens, DevOps tools, etc.), and the future plans/roadmap and goals.

I think it would be a good idea to have a contest for this PR campaign. The important tasks are:

  • Recruiting publications/websites/professional writers to publish press releases/articles/blog posts
  • Writing and publishing press releases

Both of these can be accomplished by inviting publications/websites and professional writers to participate in this PR contest. (These invites should be organized by the Community Voice SubGov to prevent duplication of invites. If you are reading this and have media/writer/blogger contacts, you can collect a bounty reward if they participate in the contest - see details below).

This contest will serve two important functions:

  • Provide an incentive for publications/websites and professional writers to participate in the PR campaign

  • Give the professional writers personal experience working with the Free TON community and participating in the contest process.

Judging Guidelines:

  • Only submissions that include a link to the article/PR/blog post etc. and provide some form of evidence of an existing audience will be accepted. Evidence of invitation from the Community Voice SubGov is also acceptable. If statistics are available that demonstrate the writers audience size / reach, please include these. If you do not have an existing audience, please don’t make a submission for this contest - it will be rejected by the jury. This is not an essay writing contest, it is a PR contest - the reach of the article, press release, or blog post is an important factor.

  • Judging will be subjective based on what each judge values in these articles/posts/PRs about Free TON. This could include reach, creativity, accuracy, quality of writing etc. However, judges must apply the same subjective standards to all articles that they judge.

  • Non-English submissions will be judged by their AI translations. Any English and grammar errors should be assumed to be due to translation.

  • Please note the reward structure is very flat and there are up to 50 places, so final rating is not extremely important. If we receive 30 submissions (optimistic) the lowest scoring article will still receive 4,200 TON. This “everybody wins” structure reduces any concerns about the subjective judging process and will ensure that all participants will have a positive experience participating in the Free TON contest system.

Reward Structure:

1 place ------------ 10,000 TONs
2 place ------------ 9,800 TONs
3 place ------------ 9,600 TONs
5 place ------------ 9,400 TONs
…
50 place ------------200 TONs

Total contest rewards = 255 000 TON

5% for jury rewards (they will be reading and judging 50+ articles) = 12 750 TON

Media Contact Bounty

[Contests are Free TON’s primary method of rewarding contributions. However, there are sometimes small tasks that are not appropriate (not efficient) for a full, formal contest. A good example is translation of a document. For these small tasks, I propose the use of bounties, which are essentially contests, but without the formalities such as juries and voting. The proposed bounty for this contest is below.]

We need to compile a list of media contacts (media writers, bloggers etc.) to send invites to compete in the Validator Decentralization milestone contest. Anybody who has media contacts (writers, bloggers etc.), please add them to this spreadsheet: ONLYOFFICE. This list will be used to send and track the invitations for the VD PR contest. Ideally each person will personally invite the media contacts that they have relationships with, so you don’t have to include their contact details, if you prefer not to. They must make a submission to the contest for you to collect the bounty:

Reward per contact: 100-500 TONs, depending on audience size (size must be verified):

less than 1k audience - 100 TON
1k to 5k audience - 200 TON
5k to 20k audience - 300 TON
20k to 100k audience - 400 TON
100k+ audience - 500 TON"

Budget for media contact bounty: 50 000 TON

Any unused bounty funds will be used to fund additional bounties for tasks sponsored by the Community Voice SubGov. See below for a potential additional bounty related to this contest.

Total Budget Request = 317 750 TON

Initial jury: Sharif Sakr @SharifSakr, Itakura (@)itakura1, Fat Tony @totkaplan, Fedor Skuratov @teodorix Michael Kabanov @michael_kabanov, Nikita @Riemann, Jo @powderedtoastwmn, PvP @prigolovko, Ron Millow @Ronmillow, Ivan Kotelnikov @isheldon, Alexander Filatov @Alexander_Filatov, Roman_D (@)Roman_D (subject to change)

Contest Funds Wallet address: 0:xxxx

Additional Notes:

This contest is only for publications/websites/writers that already have an established audience. This qualification is required for the submissions to be accepted by the jury (see Judging Guidelines above).

This contest is similar in theory to the previous DePromo contest: Free TON Community

Cointelegraph articles Referencing Free TON that can be used as example releases/articles:

The Community Voice SubGov will be responsible for developing background information and making it available to contestants, so their articles can be accurate and informative. This background info will be posted below when it is ready. A bounty may be created to incentivize this work - if this happens, the bounty will be posted below. Anybody interested in contributing can respond to bounties with contributions/submissions. If they are of sufficient value (determined by SubGov voting), they will be rewarded.

We need to approve and complete this contest very quickly to support the timing decentralization milestone (within ~1 month).

Disclaimer: Anyone can participate, but Free TON does not distribute TONs to US citizens or entities.

Does this campaign include content creation? Since we have several SG in the forum with the topics of content creation such as W&D, SMM, Wiki, …, I think it is better that this contest includes just content distribution. Just my thought.

I believe writers, bloggers etc. will want to write their own original content.

In this case, we will have four possible cases for submissions:

  • High quality content + High quality distribution
  • High quality content + Low quality distribution
  • Low quality content + High quality distribution
  • Low quality content + Low quality distribution

And evaluation will be difficult. I prefer that PR concentrates on public impressions of contents (content distributions) and leaves the content creation to other SGs.

That means the current existing contents can be distributed by participants for more impressions and PR.

For sure. The problem is they won’t for sure write it right. Simply because they are incompetent in this particular topic. Do not have an expert view.

This is why background information will be provided by Community Voice SubGov. Contestants will be given all relevant information (it will be posted below, so they will not have to research).
