Contest: Free TON project news and educational websites

Type: contest

Contest dates: April 5, 2021 — May 5, 2021 (at 23:59 UTC).

Voting cycle: 10 days

Motivation

With the development of Free TON technologies and services, the branching of the community structure, an increase in the number of partnerships and the attraction of a new audience, there is a need for media resources that systematize and systematically cover the progress of the project: from a review of events and guidance in using new tools and services to explaining technological solutions and providing opinions of active community persons and teams.

We need information platforms that can offer relevant and versatile content to an audience attracted by the Free TON external PR activities, advertising and marketing materials posted on popular resources. In addition, the content of new sites can also be used to promote the project and attract a new audience.

Currently, there are already independent news media resources covering the Free TON project development, and it is hoped that a healthy competitive environment will form, in which their number will increase, and they will develop, acquiring different specializations. Such projects need support from the Free TON community.

The goal

Encouraging the creation and development of media resources in the form of websites covering the news of the Free TON project from the perspective of information, analytics and education to form the audience’s understanding of the platform advantages, the features of its development and ways to use its resources, as well as opportunities to join and contribute.

Terms

Websites that cover the news of the Free TON project, but are not Free TON partners and are not funded from the budgets of community sub-governances, can participate.

Requirements:

  1. Type of media resource: website;
  2. Number of publications: at least 30;
  3. Frequency of publications: from 2 or more articles per week.
  4. Language of publications: 2 or more. English is required, the second is optional;
  5. Type of publications: reviews, guides, interviews, analytical articles;
  6. Connection with the Free TON ecosystem (links);
  7. Unique design.

Evaluation criteria:

  1. Uniqueness of publications (at least 2/3);
  2. Connection of publications with the Free TON project (at least 2/3);
  3. A variety of types of publications (reviews, guides, interviews, analytical articles).

Jury rewards

The Jury Group will be rewarded with 5% of the total prize pool. Only Jury Groups associated with Free TON content creation will be allowed to Judge.

Rewards

Prizes are received by submissions that take the first five places and score at least 5 points:

1st place…………60,000 + 60,000 + 60,000 = 180,000 TONs

2nd place…………………………………………… 60,000 TONs

3rd place…………………………………………… 30,000 TONs

4th place …………………………………………… 6,000 TONs

5th place ………………………………………….… 3,000 TONs

The first place winner receives the prize in parts - 1/3 of the reward. The transfer is carried out every month if the following requirements are met:

• the site continues to function;

• the publication of materials continues.

Evaluation criteria are not full. How will juries judge submissions? Is it important how many visits are to a site? What is better : good text, lot of text or good illustrations?
It would be better to provide a clear instruction how to judge!

1st place…………60,000 + 60,000 + 60,000 = 180,000 TONs

2nd place…………………………………………… 60,000 TONs

3rd place…………………………………………… 30,000 TONs

4th place …………………………………………… 6,000 TONs

5th place ………………………………………….… 3,000 TONs

Are you serious? What is the reason for this difference? I participated in a blog contest, and there the distribution of prizes looked more honest for third-party participants to involve other teams in the contest, and not just to encourage an existing website or “friends”.

Moreover, the minimum amount of such work can not be 3000 TONs. And this is taking into account the extremely small chance of getting a prize place at all.

I would also like to know what the evaluation criteria are? Or will they appear after the contest?

Очень сырое описание, хотелось бы больше информации, а то опять будет куча нюансов и подводных камней

It is essentially a repetition of a blogging contest. It is impossible to create a news site again in a month and join the process.
This contest is essentially a promotion, grant or post payment for existing blogs. I do not see any practical benefit in post facto payment.

There is only one way to extend the time from at least 90-180 days. Only then will everyone, both experienced and newcomers, be able to make a worthy product.

I also think you need to add a question about advertising in the external environment and its actual attendance (kpi). Since there is no need for another site for the inner circle, the 3 blogs that are already running generate enough content. Many do not even have time to fully view it.

And even so, I think the prizes are too large and unevenly distributed.

Does this contest have a goal to attract new participants to create content? When I think about contests for the community, I think that it could attract new people, new active participants from outside, from other communities. This is if we are talking about achieving the goal of 1 billion participants in the future.

Or is this contest done to encourage existing websites and teams?

I think 1 st place should be 20k+20k+20k , it’s more realistic
And results of work must be higher then 5 or 6 point

Contest should be fair for everyone mean everyone get the same time to develop a product or service.
If contest is created for already developed websites, then what for the rest community?

RU.

1st place…………………………………………… 25,000 TONs

2nd place…………………………………………… 20,000 TONs

3rd place…………………………………………… 18,000 TONs

4th place …………………………………………… 16,000 TONs

5th place ………………………………………….…15,000 TONs

6th place ………………………………………….…14,000 TONs

7th place ………………………………………….…13,000 TONs

8th place ………………………………………….…12,000 TONs

9th place ………………………………………….…11,000 TONs

10th place ………………………………………….…10,000 TONs

EN. I want to add more. A website does not need to cover all types of content (reviews, guides, interviews, analytical articles; etc.) to be an effective resource. (We already have a magazine - freeton house, and the guys are doing well. If the task of this competition is to support existing projects, you can make a DeSupport competition with an assessment of the work done.) For example, a website may specialize in one topic - educational content (workshops, screencasts, instructions, practical examples, etc. Without interviews, analytics, reviews, etc.). And in conjunction with the youtube channel, SEO, promotion, give a good result in this topic. But according to the criteria of this competition, such a site is unlikely to take the first place, no matter how cool its educational content is. Because he will need to add more interviews, reviews, analytical articles, and so on. And as part of the competition, it will be more to create the illusion of diversity of content. And any other place other than the first one under this system of prize awards is a one-time site for the contest to receive prize awards. All other places except the first one have no incentive to continue developing their competitive work. (There was already a blog contest, and there is something to build on and draw conclusions from.)

And to ensure that all participants are on an equal footing, the content of already created websites should not be taken into account, only new publications from the start date of the contest.

If our goal for the competition is to create an environment in which teams will have an incentive to develop their resources in the long term, we do not need to produce the same news magazines, which (very likely) will eventually rewrite each other’s content. These can also be websites with a narrow target theme. Someone will take a niche of educational content, someone will publish cool analytical articles, because the soul is in it, someone will wake up a journalist and we will see really interesting interviews, and so on. To do this, you need to review the criteria for evaluating works based on their effectiveness in their subject matter, the convenience of UX and UI, and the ultimate benefit for the target user (relevant and useful content. which responds to the user’s request). And review the system of prize awards, because in the proposed scheme, only one winner will have an incentive to develop their project in the long term. For others, it will just be a one-time amount of work.

You can make this format:

Top 10 with one-time rewards. + the prize pool that will be distributed in three months among the winners of the contest included in the top 10. After three months, the judges will evaluate how effective the development of the website was, the quantity and quality of the content. And based on their assessment, this prize pool will be distributed among those who have passed the selection criteria.

This will give at least 10 websites and teams that will have an incentive to continue working in the long run. A good version of the prize awards was offered above (I will adjust it a little):

1st place…………………………………………… 25,000 TONs

2nd place…………………………………………… 20,000 TONs

3rd place…………………………………………… 18,000 TONs

4th place …………………………………………… 16,000 TONs

5th place ………………………………………….…15,000 TONs

6th place ………………………………………….…14,000 TONs

7th place ………………………………………….…13,000 TONs

8th place ………………………………………….…12,000 TONs

9th place ………………………………………….…11,000 TONs

10th place ………………………………………….…10,000 TONs

The prize pool in three months (For example, 120,000 TONs). This will give an incentive to the teams in the top 10 to develop their projects, as I wrote above. A total of 274k (154k + 120k in three months), less than the current budget, but at the output of 10 websites + motivation for development.

Also, the contest should be covered on all possible sites and resources where there is a target audience of participants, if we want to attract new people, fresh ideas and vision. And not to spend another “mezhdusoboychik” in a narrow crowd of old friends. Thanks for attention.

Поддерживаю идею, больше конкурсов, больше участников!

Agreed. Some quantitative and qualitative criteria should be added.

I agreed that better written evaluation criteria are required. Rewards structure is a bit tricky thing since community needs high quality regularly updated websites. If someone will create a one-off webiste for contest only it will not bring a lot of value.

The idea behind this contest is not about “paying for creation” of website but to support on-going efforts of teams which run their projects. Likewise Oscar or Nobel Prize are not aiming “paying for creation” of a content.

Community needs teams which will develop their projects regardless of any contest, i.e. we need entrepreneurs but not “paid teams”.

Great idea to support existing media platforms as well as initiate the launch of other resources that can showcase projects at Free TON and highlight crucial community and development news.

I would like to offer some balance to the rewards and distribution model.

Please, refer to currently running contests - Contest proposal: Free TON wallet as a Chrome extension and Contest proposal: NFT marketplace. Total prize fund is 230K and 430K. While this contest is aiming at 279K total rewards fund. Assuming that 279K is a good prize pool for such an important contest, the dispersion of prizes is lacking balance and doesn’t encourage participants of 2nd to 5th place to try their best and conquer the first place of the pedestal.

Thus, I’d suggest to make the following corrections to the prize system:

1st place…………………………………………….90 000 TON

2nd place……………………………………………70 000 TON

3rd place…………………………………………….50 000 TON

4th place ……………………………………………30 000 TON

5th place………………………………………….…30 000 TON

All the winners should be having vesting of their prizes within the mentioned terms (min 2 articles a week during 3 months) what will encourage all teams to support their projects. Whether Stage #2 of such a contest happen, the community will see several active projects each of which offer their own view on covering news and projects at Free TON.

I might be wrong about the number of winning places (5 and not 10) but, in my humble opinion, 5 news sites will cover all the activities of the network in full.

A thing to point out is the type of materials – I support the idea by @teiwaz that it might be a ‘personal blog’ with interviews or some educational materials only. This might actually work and give extra variety to articles offered to the community. May be (may be) they should be also covering other projects as well with the comparison of pluses/minuses with Free TON – this can open a window of opportunity to attract supporters of other blockchain projects to Free TON.

As for the criteria, I’d suggest having a technical one – page load speed measured by PageSpeed Insights with score 50+ both for desktops and mobile. As for the content – the text quality should be a thing to be judged by the jury from content creating subgovs. The illustrations should be unique. Traffic criteria cannot be applied as organic traffic appears in several months from launch.

A little later, I will describe in detail the ideas for the contest.
